How to calculate VAT in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia's standard VAT rate is 15%, applied by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) since 1 July 2020. To add VAT, multiply the net amount by 0.15 and add it on. To remove VAT from a VAT-inclusive price, divide the total by 1.15 — the difference is the VAT.
VAT = Amount × 0.15
Total = Amount × 1.15Amount = Total ÷ 1.15
VAT = Total − AmountWorked example
A supplier quotes SAR 2,300 including VAT. The amount before VAT is 2,300 ÷ 1.15 = SAR 2,000, so the VAT is SAR 300. Taking 15% of 2,300 instead would give 345 — a common mistake that overstates the VAT.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the VAT rate in Saudi Arabia?
The standard rate is 15%, in force since 1 July 2020. Some supplies are zero-rated (0%) or exempt.
How do I remove 15% VAT from a total?
Divide the VAT-inclusive total by 1.15 to get the amount before VAT; the VAT is the total minus that amount. Example: 1,150 ÷ 1.15 = 1,000, so the VAT is 150.
Why not just take 15% off the total?
Because VAT is charged on the amount before VAT, not on the total. 15% of 1,150 is 172.50 — too much. The VAT inside 1,150 is exactly 150.
Do my invoices need a ZATCA QR code?
Yes. Under ZATCA's e-invoicing (FATOORA) rules, simplified tax invoices must carry a QR code, and businesses selected in each integration wave must connect their invoicing systems to ZATCA.
Does this calculator store my numbers?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
